In crochet, the yarn over (yo) is a fundamental technique you’ll use constantly. It involves looping the yarn over your hook to prepare for the next stitch. This simple but essential movement is easy to master and will soon feel like second nature with a little practice.
Performing a Yarn Over
1️⃣ Position your hook – Hold your hook in place, ready to work the next stitch.
2️⃣ Wrap the yarn – Bring the yarn from back to front over the hook.
3️⃣ Prepare for the stitch – You’re now set to pull the hook through the loops to complete your stitch.
This technique is the foundation for everything in crochet, from basic chains to the more advanced stitches we’ll explore later in the course.
