The Magic Ring is a must-know technique for any amigurumi project. It allows you to create a perfect, seamless start for rounded shapes—like heads, bodies, and limbs—without leaving a hole in the center.
Why Use the Magic Ring?
🎯 Tight, Closed Center: The Magic Ring ensures there’s no gap or hole in the middle of your work, giving your project a neat and polished look.
🔄 Adjustable Loop: You have complete control over the size of the loop, allowing you to adjust the tension to suit your project perfectly.
💫 Polished Appearance: Using the Magic Ring gives your amigurumi a seamless, professional finish, especially for rounded shapes where a clean, closed center is important.
The Alternative: Chain Start
With the chain start method, you’ll chain a few stitches (usually 2-4), join the last chain to the first with a slip stitch to form a small loop, and work your first round of stitches into that loop. However, this method often leaves a small hole in the center, which isn’t ideal for projects that need a tightly closed shape.
💡 While the chain method works in some cases, the Magic Ring is the go-to technique for amigurumi, ensuring a flawless, closed center every time.
